I have not marshalled before, what is involved, and how can I volunteer?
Initially, when you marshal, you will be involved in helping to ensure that events run safe. You will normally be ensuring that spectators stay in safe locations. As you gain more experience and training, you can then help in many other aspects of motorsport events.
But the best way is to actually contact a local motor club which is running an event and offer to help! The club members can give you advice on where they need help, and what you will be doing on that particular event. They will give you all the information you need on meeting times and location, what you need to bring along, and you can start enjoy being part of the sport.
When you sign up to the MMP and give us your details, we will text you details on training and events that require marshals - you can choose to help or not.
We would also strongly recommend that you become a licensed marshal by attending one of the training sessions and filling in an application form.
I have marshalled before, what is in the MMP for me?
The MMP offer a reward scheme over and above the normal marshal’s gifts you may get at events. You collect signatures at events run by motor clubs that pay towards the rewards. There are also regular training events that the clubs promote.
At the end of the year, you are then eligible for the rewards on offer - see the download link above this article for a current list of rewards. When you give us your details, we will text information to you about training and events that require marshals, and you can decide if you would like to help.
How do I register for the MMP?
Pick up a MMP card at an event, contact your local motor club or call Simon on 07831 399 428, or use the contact form on this website. When you get the MMP card, please fill in the information and return it to the MMP. We can then keep you informed about what is going on through our texts and regular newsletters.
Is the MMP a marshal club or a motor club?
No, the MMP doesn’t exist as a club in it’s own right. It is run by the member motor clubs to promote marshalling on their events. All the contact numbers are listed on this web site, and we would strongly encourage you to become a member of your local motor club, or go along to their meetings. It will be a great source of information about motorsport and running events.
Do I have to be a member of a motor club?
No, you don’t have to be a member of any motor club to enjoy the rewards of the MMP, although we would encourage you to join. We would also strongly recommend that you become a licensed marshal by attending one of the training sessions and filling in an application form.
My motor club is not part of the MMP, what can I do?
If your motor club is not a member of the MMP, then unfortunately you own club events do not count towards the MMP rewards. But don’t worry, you can still collect signature at events run by MMP member clubs.
If your motor club is interested in joining the MMP, then why not contact us? The MMP offers an excellent way to reward your marshals and encourage more marshals to your events. You can get text messages sent to all marshals signed up to the MMP for your event, and promote it in the MMP newsletter.
The MMP doesn’t guarantee more marshals at events, but member motor clubs have found it a very useful tool in getting and retaining marshals.
